Martin rejected as Lily's dad in EastEnders as she grows close to Ryan?

Martin Fowler (James Bye) has always been a father figure to Lily Slater (Lillia Turner), but that may be put in jeopardy as Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott) makes his EastEnders return.

Martin has helped Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) to raise Lily for the best part of a decade, so it is understandable that he feels pushed out when her biological father makes an unexpected return to the Square after years away.

Lily is upset after returning from her baby scan, where Stacey and Ryan ended up making a scene.

The youngster berates her mother for the way she treated Ryan in the hospital, leaving a sour taste in Stacey and Martin’s mouths.

Stacey is quick to remind Lily that Martin is her dad, as he has always been there for her.

Despite Ryan’s shortcomings, actor Neil McDermott believes that he could be a good dad to Lily.

‘Ryan does want to be a good dad to Lily and he feels like Stacey has asked him to stay away and that’s why he’s not there at the moment.

‘He’s respected her decision but with the news of Lily’s pregnancy, he feels he needs to come back and try to see how he can be part of her life more.’

Upon his return, Ryan ends up spending some quality time with Lily in the café, but is it enough to make up for all the lost time?

Will Lily end up replacing Martin with Ryan as her father figure?
