Strictly Come Dancing fans predict series will make history after Layton debut

Strictly: Layton Williams announces he’s joined the cast of 2023

Strictly Come Dancing fans have predicted the series will make history as actor Layton Williams made his dancefloor debut.

Layton, 29, was paired with Nikita Kuzmin in this year’s all-male partnership, and some believe the couple could be the first-ever same-sex winners.

Taking to social media during the opening show on BBC One, several fans were struck by Layton’s dance moves.

Twitter user @SineadOHaraT penned: “Looking at the group dance, Layton and Angela stood out. Really excited to see what Layton and Nikita will do, great potential.”

@outoftheindigo echoed this, adding: “What I think of #strictly this year… Keep your eyes on Layton & Nikita.”

If the couple do win they’d be the first same-sex partnership to lift the Strictly Glitterball.

In 2021, John Whaite and Johannes Radebe became the show’s first-ever same-sex couple to compete.

The two made it to the final, narrowly missing out on winning the series.

Last year, Richie Anderson was partnered with Giovanni Pernice and Jayde Adams was paired with Karen Hauer.

Could Layton and Nikita make history by becoming the first all-male winner?

Since it was revealed Layton was taking part in the series, he’s been forced to defend the sign-up due to his previous dance experience.

Now his newly announced pro partner Nikita Kuzmin has waded in on the debate.

Discussing it on Saturday’s launch, he stated: “Ballroom and Latin are completely different to anything Layton has done so far, the technique, posture and especially co-ordination is completely different, he has a lot to learn and I can’t wait to teach him.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.35pm on BBC One.
