This Morning’s Alison Hammond scolded for glamorising news of escaped prisoner

Alison Hammond told off by Gyles for 'glamourising' escaped prisoner

Alison Hammond was quickly scolded for her enthusiasm about prison escapee Daniel Khalife.

Before delving into the subject on Friday’s instalment of This Morning, Alison commented: “I can see this being made into a bit of a film you know.”

Informing viewers the escaped prisoner is still on the loose, the This Morning host revealed there have been no confirmed sightings.

She said: “Daniel Khalife escaped prison underneath a truck, it’s unbelievable.

“Yesterday police accidentally detained a look-alike. Sorry I shouldn’t be laughing!”

Commenting that the arrest was caught on camera by a member of the public, Alison was keen to see the video.

She asked: “Have we got that?! I want to see, I want to see that. I’m going to go straight online afterwards.”

Daniel Khalife is a soldier turned terror suspect who escaped from Wandsworth prison earlier this week.

Alison commented: “Huge questions are being raised as to why a terror suspect was not detained in the highest security.”

However, it appeared as though guest Gyles Brandreth was less than impressed by Alison’s delivery of the topic as he was quick to scold her for laughing.

He said: “We have to guard Alison don’t we against glamorising it, you saying ‘Oh I’m looking forward to the movie.’

“As if it becomes a mixture of a Carry On film and Day of the Jackal, the way you’re telling it.”

Realising how her approach may have come across as insensitive, Alison immediately apologised: “No I know, I’m so sorry.”

It wasn’t long before viewers watching were quick to call out the ITV host for her enthusiasm at the story as they took to social media to call Alison out.
