Claire Sweeney has confirmed when she and Maureen Lipman will return to Coronation Street.
The Brookside star made her arrival to the cobbles a few weeks ago. Claire plays Cassie Plummer, who is Evelyn’s secret daughter.
When Evelyn first spotted Cassie in Weatherfield, she chose to ignore her, allowing us to establish that the relationship between mother and daughter isn’t a very good one.
Later, when Evelyn received a phone call saying that Cassie was in hospital, we found out why.
Drug addicted Cassie had been admitted to A&E after an overdose. When Evelyn confronted her, we established that Cassie had worked out her mum is now living with her son, Tyrone (Alan Halsall).

A furious Cassie argued that she had the right to see Tyrone, under the impression that he was living a completely different life after Evelyn left him outside a police station when he was a baby, leading to his adoption.
Evelyn angrily told Cassie that would never happen. Firstly, she didn’t want Tyrone’s life ruined by someone he barely knows and secondly, Ty also believes that his biological mother is dead.
The scenes were incredibly powerful and heavily praised by fans, but Cassie’s time on screen is currently on pause.
She left the cobbles with Evelyn in the episode broadcasted on June 30. Cassie agreed with the idea of getting clean, and Evelyn decided to help her.
Fortunately, we don’t have long to wait until Cassie and Evelyn are back, as Claire Sweeney recently confirmed what’s ahead during a chat with Lorraine Kelly:
‘I’m back on August 16th’, she said.
‘I’m back in the thick of filming, working with the wonderful Alan Halsall. He’s so good, and Maureen, and Sally Carman as well, I love it’.
Claire and Sally’s upcoming scenes together comes after confirmation a drug dealer will be returning to Coronation Street soon.
Dean Turnball used to be friends with Sally’s character, Abi Webster, but is said to focus on Cassie in a new storyline.
‘Dean’s back for a limited time but he’s just as dangerous as before’, a source told The Sun.
‘He’s got history with Abi but she’s not the only addict on the street that Dean knows – Cassie Plummer could be in his orbit too. It’s definitely one to watch.’
