Her family moved to the Gold Coast, Queensland, in Australia when she was two years old.
She graduated as school captain in 1997 and was trained in classical opera growing up.

Sophie was also the winner of the fourth season of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia in 2015.
She was a judge on Australia's Got Talent 2016 and in 2017 starred on the third season of The Bachelorette Australia.
In 2018, she became the host of Love Island Australia and in 2021 began hosting Beauty And The Geek Australia.
She is also a regular guest panellist on The Hundred with Andy Lee.
Who is Sophie Monk's husband Joshua Gross?
Joshua Gross's Instagram bio states he is a photographer.
Despite not being in showbiz he has said he is "proud" of his wife.
Joshua told Who exclusively in 2021: "When I came on to the set while she was filming Beauty And The Geek, I was blown away by her talent.
"She’s incredible. I’m a very lucky guy.”
The couple also own a golden retriever, Bluey.
Where did Sophie Monk and Joshua Gross first meet?
Sophie and Joshua fell in love in 2018.
They were both flying on a business class flight and Sophie struck up a conversation with him.
A few champagnes later and she leaned in for a kiss.
Sophie told 9Honey:"I just sat down and he had a sense of humour and I was like, 'Oh, how relieving, sitting next to someone you can have a chat with'.
"It was like, 'Good sense of humour, hard worker'… it just happened."
The relationship started as a long-distance romance but the two fell head over heels quickly.
Sophie admitted to TV Week that this relationship was nothing like one she'd had before.
She said: "I wasn't comfortable with myself and would choose people who weren't right for me,"
"When you don't feel good about yourself, you attract the wrong thing or you look for somebody to fulfil you.
"But you need to meet someone who's a bonus to you, not someone to fix you. That took me ages (to realise)."
The two became engaged in January 2021.
Sophie announced the news by posting a photo of the couple embracing with her new diamond ring on show.
She wrote: "Told you I'd tell you guys first – I'm engaged,"
"I honestly can't thank you enough for all the love and support.
"I know I have the coolest people following me and you've always had my back and I feel so cared about.
"You're absolute bloody legends. I'm not very good at being mushy. I'm trying to say I absolutely adore you."
When did Sophie Monk and Joshua Gross get married?
Sophie and Joshua tied the knot in a intimate ceremony in March 2022.
Stellar Magazine was invited to capture their day.
Sophie revealed to them: "We always thought we'd elope. So many people said to me, 'I didn't even see my husband on the night; if I had my wedding over, we'd just elope'.
"So we thought, well, why don't we just get married at home?
"I've seen people get really stressed about their wedding, and ours has been so stress-free."
The only guests were those who'd attended their at-home dinner before exchanging their vows.
Sophie posted on Instagram: "I HAVE A HUBBY!
"We eloped-ish at home. I can’t believe I met him on a plane! It’s crazy. Best flight of my life!
"I really do believe everything happens for a reason.
"I love you @joshuargross thanks for putting up with how messy, disorganised and lazy I am.
"Youre my best friend in the world AND you are welcome for how hilarious my jokes are and how I absolutely smash you in Xbox F1! We’re both lucky."
Joshua simply wrote: "Sophie, I love you. Now and forever."
Do Sophie Monk and Joshua Gross have any children together?
Sophie and Joshua don't have children.
Sophie has previously stated that she had frozen her eggs when talking about her future with Josh.
However, she did confirm the couple were trying for their first child.
