‘Cherished daughter’ killed by marked cop car on Christmas Eve was ‘much loved’

The woman who died after being hit by a marked police car has been named as Rachael Louise Moore, 22.

The shocking incident happened on Sheil Road in Liverpool at around 8.10pm last night (December 24).

She was died at the scene and Merseyside Police has offered the family support.

In a statement, the family said: "Rachael Louise Moore aged 22, cherished daughter of Alison and Ian, sister to Ben and much loved granddaughter of Nana Sue. Partner to Jack and caring friend to many."

An appeal for witnesses has been made and the Independent Officer for Police Conduct attended to site to launch an investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact (0151) 777 5747, or via @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, with reference 857 of Saturday 24 December.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "Following the death of Rachael we are providing assistance to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"Our sincere and thoughts and condolences are with Rachael’s family who have been left devastated by this tragic incident. Specially trained family Liaison Officers are supporting them at this time."

It has been a soberingly busy Christmas period for Merseyside Police after a woman was shot in a packed pub on Christmas Eve.

Police attended the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey Village, Merseyside, after receiving reports of gunshots just after 11:50 pm last night (December 24) and have since launched a murder probe.

The 26-year-old woman who police confirmed was “not” a specific target of the shooter was taken to hospital with bullet wounds following the incident but was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support, Merseyside Police confirmed.
