Now eco mob target Parliament: Protesters SUPERGLUE themselves to speaker’s chair in empty House of Commons

Environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion superglued themselves onto the Speaker’s Chair inside the House of Commons in their latest protest today.

The activists held signs saying ‘let the people decide’ and ‘citizens assembly now’, with one saying: ‘We are in crisis. We can not afford to carry on like this.’

The campaign group posted a photo on Twitter just before noon showing three members hand-in-hand in front of the seat while two other members held up signs.

Another protester draped a banner outside the Palace of Westminster after climbing up scaffolding, which again said: ‘Let the people decide – citizens assembly now’.

An XR spokesman said: ‘The protest points to the need for a Citizens’ Assembly to cut through the corruption in Westminster, update politics & let the people decide.’

Parliament is currently on its summer recess until next Monday, which will also be when either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss are confirmed as the next prime minister.

Extinction Rebellion activists also dropped a banner across The Palace of Westminster today

It comes after semi-naked XR protesters interrupted a Brexit debate in the House of Commons in April 2019 and glued their hands to the glass of the public gallery.

And then in September 2020, a group of about 30 topless XR activists locked themselves to the gates of Parliament with a banner reading ‘Can’t Bare the Truth?’.
