Girl, two, nearly loses her fingers after getting them trapped in an escalator at a mall in El Salvador

  • The young girl’s hand was saved after she got it stuck in the escalator guard rail 

A two-year-old girl almost lost her fingers after trapping her hand in an escalator in a shopping mall in El Salvador. 

The toddler was with her mother at the Plaza Mundo shopping centre in Apopa, El Salvador, when she got her fingers stuck.

The girl’s mother cradled her child as technicians worked to free her fingers from the jagged guard at the bottom of the escalator.

The child got stuck after reportedly placing her hand under the guard rail, while her mother was distracted, at 6:30pm on 5 September.

The unnamed girl later underwent an operation at a nearby hospital where surgeons successfully saved all of her fingers.

The girl’s fingers were saved by doctors who were also able to prevent any long term injuries

Doctors were also able to prevent the risk of any long term effects that could impact her her in the future.

The young girl was discharged the following day and will have to go through a rehabilitation process to maintain normal use of her hand.

A video shows the the girl’s desperate mother trying to save her child as she sits with her hand stuck in the escalator.   

Locals quickly took to social media to commend the doctor’s on their work in the saving the young girl. 

‘Excellent work,’ one local, Santiago Medina, commented. 

Another social media user, Roberto Rosales, commented on the wonders of modern medicine. ‘As always, science works wonders,’ he said. 

A third social media user, Jose Alva, said: ‘God bless that little girl.’
