Harry’s ‘cut off’ gesture hinted at royal rift in first chat with fiancee Meghan

Prince Harry hinted at a rift in the Royal Family as far back as 2017 during an interview in which he and then fiancee Meghan Markle discussed their engagement, according to an expert.

In recent years, the Duke of Sussex has laid bare the rocky relations with both his father King Charles III and his elder brother Prince William, the Prince of Wales.

He has previously given a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and published his controversial memoir Spare, which included details of an physical altercation with William.

However, when Harry first got engaged to now wife Meghan, nobody really knew the true extent of bad royal blood.

In the first interview together to mark their engagement, Harry and Meghan spoke warmly about the likes of Charles and William.

But, according to body language expert Judi James, a very telling gesture in that 2017 interview hinted at tension, as she pinpointed the moment when he was asked about introducing Meghan to his father and his brother.

She told the Express: "Harry performs some fast blinks to suggest a burst of adrenalin and then he looks down in a cut-off gesture to conceal his eye expression and therefore – possibly – his true feelings.

"He then looks to his side as though recalling the moment and his lips clamp rather than move in speech.

"The ‘Ah…’ from Harry sounds telling, as though he is debating whether to tell all or not," adding: "He performs an asymmetric smile that suggests he could say more."

Harry and Meghan's engagement interview on the BBC was thrust back into the spotlight at the end of last year when the couple talked about it in their controversial Netflix series, with Meghan describing it as an "orchestrated reality show" and claimed it was rehearsed with the couple told what to do.

But interviewer Mishal Husain simply said: "Recollections may vary" – the same phrase used by the late Queen in the aftermath of Harry and Meghan's Oprah chat.

Last week, Harry made a surprise visit to the UK to attend a High Court case involving his latest legal hearing, believed to have been the first time he had been back in the country since the Queen's state funeral in September.

It was also the first time back in his home country since the release of Spare and since learning he and Meghan would have to leave their UK home Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate.

Harry is not believed to have met up with his father Charles, who was "too busy,' while William and his wife Kate were said to be away for the Easter holidays.
