King ‘rejects calls for cut-price coronation’ despite UK’s cost of living crisis

King Charles III has rejected 'calls for cut-price coronation' despite UK's cost of living crisis in favour of promoting "UK plc", claims the Daily Telegraph.

Despite the ceremony being shorter than that of the late Queen, the event is set to take place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, and will feature the full "glorious" pomp and pageantry.

The once-in-a-lifetime spectacle is set to tap into the huge global audience that was generated in the aftermath of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Buckingham Palace and government aides took heed of the wide coverage and the King will look to take full advantage of it.

The Palace said the ceremony will be "rooted in long-standing traditions and pageantry" but also "reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future".

The King will be anointed with holy oil, receive the orb, coronation ring and sceptre, be crowned with the majestic St Edward's Crown and blessed during the historic ceremony.

Despite the grandness of the ceremony it is understood the King will not be granting Brits an extra bank holiday on the day of his coronation.

Organisers expect special events to be held across the country and thousands of people to flock to London to witness the historic event.

However, ministers have agreed it is "highly unlikely" there will be any extra time off, reports theMirror.

Discussions with the government have taken into account a range of factors, including clashes with sporting events, the availability of Westminster Abbey and the Archbishop of Canterbury and even the likelihood of favourable weather conditions.

However, a royal expert has claimed that the decision to have the coronation on Archie Mountbatten-Windsor’s birthday has a 'sting in the tail.'

Daniela Elser said that the son of Prince Harry ’s fourth birthday “is going to be a bit of a rubbish one”.

She added that the considerations for the King’s coronation took into account a number of things, and so it was surprising seeing what got overlooked.

“While the timing of the FA Cup Final and the Epsom Derby were taken into account by Buckingham Palace, according to the Times, it’s pretty surprising that the sixth in line to the throne’s birthday was not.”
