A Marks and Spencer executive who admitted dealing drugs at a London nightclub has been spared jail.

Charlotte Fennessy, 22, was arrested at Fabric in central London days before Christmas last year after she was caught with cocaine and ecstasy pills stuffed down her bra. She claimed the cocaine was for personal use.

Fennessy, of Kent, admitted one count of possession of MDMA with intent to supply, and one count of possession of cocaine.

She was given a 12-month community order. She will have to complete 80 hours unpaid work and pay a total of £340 in prosecution costs and in a victim surcharge.

The marketing and social media manager was arrested on December 19, 2021 after having arrived at the club with a group of friends, the court heard.

‘She was searched in the usual way by security and they found a bag containing 60 pills concealed behind one of her bra straps,’ Stephen Wells, prosecuting, said.

The pills were MDMA, the court was told. Fennessy also had 331 milligrams of cocaine for her personal use.

Andrew Cohen, defending, said the behaviour is ‘completely out of character’ for Fennessy and ‘unlikely to happen again.’

‘This is a young woman, a university graduate, very focused. She has worked throughout her life,’ Mr Cohen told the court.

‘She succeeded very well at university, and she has a good job now. This behaviour is completely out of character.

‘This hasn’t happened before and is unlikely to happen again. This is clearly someone who is not a criminal and finds herself in this situation.’

Mr Cohen argued that the situation has been ‘horrifying’ for Fennessy, as well as her family and friends.

He added: ‘This whole business has weighed very heavily on her.’

The judge, Mr Recorder John Ryder told Fennessy: ‘You were immediately cooperative. You are now usefully and successfully employed.

‘I have no doubt that you have suffered tremendous anxiety as a result of this.

‘You are not going to prison, either immediately or by way of a suspended sentence.

‘I think you made a mistake and a very serious one. You have likely learned an immense amount from it.’
