Kingsley pond: Screams for help heard as girl, 2, found ‘floating’ in water 200m from home as woman arrested on ‘murder’ | The Sun

SCREAMS of "help me" were heard at a pond when a "sweet" girl was found floating in the water 200m from her home.

The toddler, two, tragically passed away on Monday after she was reported missing in Hampshire – with a woman since arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cops had been called to the tot's house in Forge Road, Kingsley, near Bordon, at around 5.02pm on Sunday.

An urgent hunt to find the little girl was carried out before the force tragically discovered her "unresponsive" in Kingsley Pond soon after.

And one villager said they had heard an adult voice at the pond shouting "help me, help me" around the time of the tragedy.

They recalled how the youngster was wrapped in blankets as she was put into the back of an ambulance and rushed to hospital.

Paramedics did everything they could to save her, but she tragically died on Monday.

Her cause of death is not yet known.

A woman in her 40s has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody, Hampshire police said last night.

In a heartbreaking tribute, neighbours told how the girl gave everyone "little smiles".

One local who lives nearby told The Sun: “The first we knew of it was when the police car pulled up. Within 20 minutes of the first car pulling up the place was flooded.

"This place was jammed.

"The whole place was cordoned off and then basically we were asked by CID if we had any footage on our camera, which we do.

"But there was nothing on there, we can't see the little one, the family, nothing.

"It's absolutely terrible.

"We've met her, we always said hello. At Halloween we get a lot of decorations around the house for our little one and she used to come in and look at the decorations.

"She was gorgeous. She was a beautiful little girl."

Another added: "Whenever we saw her in the village she didn’t really speak, she gave us little smiles.

"She was a sweet little girl. She was very very quiet and shy. Timid I would say.”

Floral tributes were today left at the scene for her by locals wanting to pay their respects.

One tribute read: "RIP little angel xx."

Another said: "RIP little one. Gone well too soon. Taken to heaven now. Sleep tight little one.”

Charmayne Dennard visited the pond to lay flowers.

Throwing sunflowers into the water she said: "It's just so heartbreaking, I had to come and pay my respects.

"That poor, poor little girl. You can't imagine the pain her family mustbe going through.

"The unknown is so scary, It's frightening to think of what happened."

Witnesses told The Telegraph they arrived home to see the area cordoned off and the youngster "floating" in the water.

One resident said: “Everyone is just hoping for the best but it’s very strange.

"There are houses that back onto the pond and the common but the terrain is thick and it would be difficult for a toddler to make it that far.”

The force is now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They previously said: "Police were called at 5.02pm on Sunday, September 10, to a report of a two-year-old girl who had gone missing from her home on Forge Road, Kingsley, Bordon.

"She was found a short time later in Kingsley Pond. She was taken to hospital in a serious condition but sadly died this afternoon.

"A woman, aged in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. She is currently in police custody."
