Kirstie Alley’s gated waterfront mansion in Florida that she bought from Lisa Marie Presley for $1.5million in 2000 is on the market for $6m after Cheers actress’ death last year

A nine-bedroom Florida waterfront mansion that was owned by late Cheers star Kirstie Alley is on the market for a cool $5.95 million. 

Alley, who passed away in December aged 71 following a battle with colon cancer, bought the home from Lisa Marie Presley in 2000 for $1.5 million. Presley died in January at the age of 54 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The home is located in the city of Clearwater, which has been Scientology’s spiritual home since 1975. Both Alley and Presley were Scientologists during their lives, although Presley is thought to have left the controversial religion in 2014. Another famous Scientologist, John Travolta, used to live next door. 

Located along North Osceola Avenue in the city’s Old Clearwater Bay neighborhood, the house features a media room, heated pool, three balconies, 60-foot dock and a 200-foot protective wall surrounding it, according to Realtor.com.

The home is owned by Alley’s trust with the Look Who’s Talking star’s agent Sara Estrada, also a Scientologist, listed as the current owner, records show. Alley was reported to have passed away at the home. 

She had been receiving treatment for cancer at the nearby Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.  

In her will, Alley is thought to have left her assets, including her Clearwater home to her children, Lillie Price Stephenson, 28, and William True Stevenson, 30. The pair spent much of their formative years in the area. 

The listing for the home notes that the property is a solid financial investment thanks to Florida’s expanding population. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Florida became a very popular destination with families seeking to escape big cities. 

In September 2022, it was reported that more than 40,000 New Yorkers had moved to Florida  since 2021 citing reasons such as taxes and soaring crime. 

During the same period, Florida also saw huge numbers of driver’s license applications from Democratic-run states such as California, New Jersey, Washington, Oregon and Pennsylvania.  

This marks the second time Alley’s company, True Blue Productions, has put the property up for sale. In March 2001, less than a year after she took ownership, Alley sold the home to a woman named Carol A. Berc, reported the Tampa Bay Times. 

Online records show that Alley became owner again in 2008 after purchasing it back for $1.8 million. Alley also owns a at 1104 N Osceola Avenue, which she purchased it in 2014.

The Times noted in their 2001 report that Alley used the house as a vacation home. 

The headquarters of Scientology aka the Flag Building, often referred to as the religion’s Mecca, is just a few blocks from the house. Alley’s memorial was held at the building. 

A spokesperson for the religion told the Tampa Bay Times in 2001: ‘(Kirstie Alley) is selling this because she is apparently getting a villa in Italy. She is trading one for the other.’

The spokesperson added that Alley had only visited the house a few times but that she would continue to travel to Clearwater to attend church services.

In a 1995 interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Carole Berc described herself as a born-again Christian and not a Scientologist. 

Continuing with the Hollywood theme, the Times reported in 2002 that Berc was selling the home in order to move into an apartment that was owned by Mae West. 

Presley moved into Old Clearwater Bay in 1996 following the fallout from her controversial marriage to Michael Jackson. A neighbor told the Times that Presley’s presence in the area brought more media attention than Alley ever did. 

That neighbor, Angela Panoutsakos, said she turned down numerous cash offers to allow photographers on her property in an attempt to take snaps of Presley. 

She said: ‘For three years there were people trying to climb the wall, trying to go through the gate, trying to punch the computer and open the gate. They offered us all kinds of money to rent the house for one night or two nights. We’re people who respect privacy.’

The home is currently listed as being owned by Alley’s agent, Sara Estrada, also a Scientologist

Shortly after her death in December, the New York Post reported that Alley working on building a ‘farmhouse’ on land that she had purchased in Clearwater beside her waterfront house. 

Alley once said in an interview in 1979 that she discovered Scientology while taking cocaine in her hometown of Wichita, Kansas, in 1979.

She told Celebrity: ‘I thought, ‘This either really works or it doesn’t.’ So I packed up and moved to Los Angeles to find out.’ 

Alley later said she would still have tried to become an actor without the religion but that it’s presence in her life helped her career greatly. 

According to the listing, ‘The bathrooms are a delight. The master bathroom is original luxury retaining all of its charm, with a deep soaking bathtub, double shower and his and hers vanities’
