Moment giant RAT the 'size of a foot' scuttles around McDonald's

Mc-Scurry! Moment giant RAT the ‘size of a foot’ scuttles around McDonald’s diners’ feet in Notting Hill restaurant as customers scream in fright

  •  Luke Scott, 48, scream so loud he thought the restaurant was being ‘robbed’
  •  The father-of-two claims staff evacuated customers and reopened in an hour

A giant rat the ‘size of a customer’s foot’ was caught on camera brazenly running about McDonald’s in Notting Hill – leaving diners screaming as it scuttled around their feet.

Appalling video footage shared on Twitter shows the moment the rodent scurries along the McDonald’s floor before taking refuge behind an oblivious diner’s chair.

Stunned customers can be heard yelling in the background, before eventually clustering around the unexpected visitor to take photographs and videos.

Luke Scott stopped by his local McDonald’s in Notting Hill Gate, London, yesterday as he was craving a vanilla milkshake.

The 48-year-old was about to leave after learning the milkshake machine was broken – until he heard a shout of terror so loud that he thought the restaurant was being ‘robbed’.

Instead, Luke was in for a surprise when he spotted a large rat ‘the size of his foot’ that was ‘confidently’ scuttling around the fast food outlet’s floor right by customers’ feet.

Luke, who works in the media, claims that the rat-induced panic resulted in McDonald’s staff evacuating customers from the restaurant two minutes later and temporarily closing down the store.

The father-of-two claims that the body of the rodent was ‘huge’ and that its size left him in no doubt that it was a rat and not a mouse.

Luke, who lives locally in Notting Hill said: ‘I walked in and went to the self-service machines to try and get a milkshake, but the milkshake machine wasn’t working.

‘I was about to turn and leave, and then somebody shouted loudly. I thought it might be a robbery.

‘I looked around and a couple of people were jumping up and then somebody shouted ‘rat, rat’.

‘I just saw it run across the floor. I felt like people wouldn’t believe it unless they saw it, so I started filming.

‘It ran towards me, but with other people in the way. It stopped and got caught in someone’s bag and feet and then they jumped out the way.

‘What was amazing was that it went along the barrier to where someone was sitting, completely oblivious. She sat there eating her meal and the rat was sat at her feet trying to climb up her chair.

‘There was a mini conference behind the counter with the staff, and then someone who was a bit more senior came forward and said they were closing the store.

‘They made an audio announcement saying the shop is closed, and everyone was evacuated.

‘The rat seemed fairly unafraid by the commotion. Everyone got their phones out and started crowding around. It seemed fairly relaxed; it wasn’t manic. It seemed quite confident.

‘Regardless of the tail, the body of the rodent was huge. It was about the size of my foot.

McDonald’s UK tweeted that they would ‘look into this further’ after someone posted a movie poster of the film Ratatouille, which features an animated rat

‘I’ve seen rodents in London and sometimes I think, ‘is it a mouse or is it a rat?’, but there’s no doubt this was a rat. It was big.’

Luke claims that the McDonalds branch was reopened within the hour – which he claims has led him to question how thorough the store’s extermination policy is.

The surprised diner claims that he was ‘glad he wasn’t eating’ when he saw the giant rodent – but says that the experience has put him off the fast food chain nonetheless.

Luke said: ‘It was running around for about two minutes before the staff decided to close the store, which wasn’t long but was longer than you would expect.

‘I walked past an hour later and they’d opened it again, so I don’t know how thorough their extermination policy is.

‘It has put me off going to McDonalds. I’m not a big goer anyway, I just really craved a milkshake.

‘I was just glad I wasn’t eating when I saw it.’

McDonald’s have been contacted for a comment.
