Fans of Caramac are up in arms after news emerged that the bar is being discontinued by Nestlé due to falling sales.
The brand claims the bar made with condensed milk and treacle is ‘not as popular’ as other confectionery in its range.
But that’s certainly not evident from the outpouring from nostalgic fans, who are threatening to ‘riot’ over the decision to axe the Caramac, which first launched in 1959.
There’s nothing like the departure of a favourite sweet treat from the shelves to raise the heckles of loyal shoppers who have been enjoying a particular confection since childhood.
Caramac joins the rank of other much-mourned favourites, which have been consigned to history, including the Cadbury Spira, the Time Out and Cadbury’s Snow Flake.
Although it’s been gone for 15 years, people still get wistful for the Mars Delight, and a small but determined group of fans have even started a petition for it to come back.
And even short-lived chocolates can make an impression, such as the Cadbury Taz Bar, which only existed for four years in the ’90s but was a lunchbox snack staple for countless millennials. Even the very similar Freddo bar isn’t enough to appease some tastes.
