Holly Willoughby’s hidden heartbreak as she quits This Morning – leaving ITV show in ‘chaos’

Holly Willoughby has reportedly "never got over" Phillip Schofield's departure from This Morning earlier this year, as the star has now announced she has left the ITV daytime show, sending the show into “chaos”.

The 42 year old star took to Instagram on Tuesday, 10 October, to share a shock statement that said she was leaving after 14 years and "will not be returning."

Holly Willoughby cited her family’s well-being for her shock departure from the show, however, a source has questioned if Holly “regrets the fallout” with co-host Phillip Schofield.

One friend of the star claimed to DailyMail that Holly “never got over” Phillip’s departure and that she “misses” her co-host, adding: “You wonder if she regrets the fallout – look at everything that has happened as a result. It’s really sad”.

The relationship between Holly and former co-star and best friend Phil fell apart earlier this year, when Phil admitted to an affair with a young This Morning runner. He soon stepped down from the programme, apologising to his colleagues, friends and family for the “unwise but not illegal” affair.

Taking to Instagram to share the news of her departure, Holly released a statement to her 8.5 million followers which read: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning.

“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together.

“Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.”

It comes after a rather awful year for Holly, and the show itself, with the star most recently facing an alleged plot to "kidnap and murder" her.

Now an ITV source has claimed This Morning has been left in “chaos” after Holly “vowed” to save the show after Phillips scandal.

An ITV source told the DailyMail: “While there have been murmurings since the kidnap plot came out that Holly might decide to give it all up, the bosses were confident that they were giving her all of the support she needed. Then bang, this. It came as a real shock, especially as she vowed to save This Morning after Phil was ousted. People are gobsmacked, the place is chaos.”
